First Read Of 2015 - Devil Bones

I started this book a few days ago and happened to finish it today. I was going for a dinner with friends before our annual slumber party (which included movies and junk foods) when we stopped by the bookstore before heading to our dinner place.

My friend happened to be a huge fan of the hit TV series Bones and though I'm not that huge of a fan, I still love that show nonetheless. Well, there's crime, dead bodies, high IQ nerds and humor, why not?

When she spotted this book at the Blockbuster Price section, I didn't think twice before making the decision to buy this book. I love the TV series so much, and I never thought that the TV show was inspired by this same author who wrote this very book. Of course I as a nerd would love to get my hands on the book.

It's a total bargain at only RM12.00 where the original price was RM43.90, basically 44 ringgit. Though I didn't bring out much cash, I still bought it and had to be careful on the price of my dinner later.

But the book was totally worth it. I sat down a couple of days before and started this book with excitement. I must admit that this book required my full attention to comprehend the meaning and the plot. The author is a world-class forensic anthropologist and this definitely mean there's going to be lot of tough stuffs (but real) in this book.

I spent more time on this book than any other books I had read before because I was too busy these past few days trying to pack up for college, and also, because it's really hard to take in all the forensic vocabulary and the knowledge. That, and to keep guessing about the crime and couple of deaths.

I was kinda surprised by the characters in the book as I was expecting the characters in the books must be more or less the same with the TV show. But I'm wrong. Apart from the name of the protagonist, which is Dr. Temperance Brennan, pretty much everything is different.

The plot is good and I must say the author had put a lot of efforts in researching materials for Satanism, Wiccan and other themes in the book. I'd learned a lot from reading this book and also, learn to appreciate my life without constant dead bodies to examine or have a gun pointed behind my skull or have to face a complete psycho who wishes to kill me along with the detective.

Though the book's kinda heavy (in knowledge and story line), there're also much-appreciated humor that sometimes lighten things up and made the reading journey so much more enjoyable.

I guess this is a pretty good start for 2015 as I finish such a great book. I'd say that I'll not hesitate to buy the next time if I see another book written by this author. It's just plain brilliant and engaging!

But if you're more to a relaxing kind of reading, I'd not encouraged you to read this book (no offense to the author) because it requires a lot of concentration to really comprehend and appreciate the story.

Go for Sophie Kinsella or Meg Cabot, you'll enjoy yourself much more!

Till next time people.

xx
